Victory to the Finns at the CEAFL, Vienna

Posted by Vietnam Swans on June 12, 2007

Rooster has something to crow aboutThe Rooster will be crowing! You may recall that the Singapore Wombat, Mr Rooster, set off for Vienna last weekend to be with his Finland team for the Central European AFL (CEAFL) Champs.

Rooster wasn’t feeling as confident as he had the previous year with the number of Aussies on the team dropping from 8 to just 3 players. Apparently their team now oozes Finnish talent (and wait until ex Hanoi Swans player, Antti, joins them. For the latest on Antti, check out this blog in the next couple of days).

Finland met the hosts, Vienna, in the opening round – and came off second best. For the subsequent matches, Finland beat all which was enough to put Finland into the Grand Final to play… Vienna again.

Finland had just 3 interchange players to Vienna’s 8. By the time the final siren sounded, the Finns had booted 11 goals to Vienna’s 5. Congratulations to Rooster and the Finns.

The Finnish boys heading home from Vienna with the CEAFL CupThe Swans have been arguing for a long time; there’s a lot more to Finland than just Santa and Vodka.

Rupert’s Anguish

Posted by Vietnam Swans on June 12, 2007

Murdoch’s AnguishMedia Moghul Rupert Murdoch, between hands at the Dow Jones, today made an extraordinary bid for the Swans Blog Site. There was some shock at this news – and a wee bit of awe for the Swans – when the story broke. Mr Murdoch explained that for any new Blog site to reach 1,000 hits in it’s first 5 weeks is “just awesome, mate”.

Questioned further, Mr Murdoch believed that with his extensive media interests, he would be able to give the Vietnam Swans and the Asian Champs the “oxygen of publicity” that they were desperately seeking.

While details of the amount of money offered are sketchy, it is believed to be in the vicinity of squillions. Surprisingly, the Cash Strapped Swans decided to take Mr Murdoch to the Moral High Ground. They are alleged to have told him, “Renounce your American for Australian citizenship and you’re a chance to take a controlling interest in, arguably, the world’s most famous footy club”.

Rupert, who is rumoured to like Disneyland a lot, decided to reject the offer.

Mr Murdoch likes Disneyland a lot. For more information on how to get Mr Murdoch to buy out your website or blog, speak to the Swans’ IT architect, Adam Hurley. Adam has been passionately arguing to the Swans for some time that we needed a blog. 1,000 hits later (compared with not many on our website), people are now taking serious notice of Adam.
