Why would Royce Hart bring this up now? Is he trying to have everyone feel sorry for him that he was “nearly” sent to Vietnam to serve in the army? Or was he just saying how smart he was being able to use his status as a champion footballer to get out of serving his country? Was he just showing total arrogance & disrespect to other National Servicemen who didn’t have powerful friends & politicians to pull strings for them? To call another serviceman a “Snotty Nosed Little Kid” that he bribed to take his place on a bivouac so he could play in the Grand Final is a disgrace! He should have been forever grateful for that soldier taking his bribe! I wonder if the soldier who took his place in Townsville and went to Vietnam survived his tour of duty (I hope so!). How do you think the families of National Servicemen who served in Vietnam and lost their lives or were wounded felt after reading his arrogant comments! They didn’t have someone to “cry” to each time a posting went against them!

As far as I know at least 9 VFL Footballer National Servicemen served in Vietnam. None of these used their “contacts” to stay in Australia! Six Essendon Players served in Vietnam. It did not help their careers! Keith Gent was wounded so his was ended because of Vietnam. However they all faced up to their responsibilities regardless of the consequences! I understand a number of them are very upset about Royce Hart’s revelations! Graham Cornes, Wayne Closter & John Duckworth from other clubs also served in Vietnam. It makes one wonder about other big names who were called up that all seemed to miss out on Vietnam postings! Normie Rowe had his career ruined because of National Service and serving in Vietnam. He never avoided his responsibilities despite it now appears his birthday never came out in the draft (Ballot)! Possibly organized by the same politician who got Royce Hart out of going to Vietnam! If you are going to tell the story now Royce tell the whole story and include the name of the Politician concerned! You arrogance will have hurt many people Royce with your revelations! You were a champion footballer but ones sees you in a different light now! By the way I have a friend who when posted to Vietnam went to his local MP to try and get out of going. He was not a well known person or footballer and his request fell on deaf ears! He had to serve his time in Vietnam!

Perhaps Richmond should have the 1969 Premiership taken off of them for “Tampering with the Draft”!

Sam ran for 8.5 hours, then Scott & Za walked for 28.5 hours.

I only had a bit of a kick of footy with some mates for 1.5 hours.
