Swannies farewell Trent Mears who returns to Australia
Posted by Vietnam Swans on July 18, 2013
Last night in Hanoi, the Swannies farewelled Trent “Trenter” Mears.
Trent has been actively involved with the Swannies at both ends of the country having lived in both Hanoi and Saigon.
Matt Townsend elaborates below.
Fresh from watching Vietnam’s stunning late fightback against a minor north London soccer outfit, Trent Mears was joined by a gaggle of Swans and farewelled last night.
Heading back to Australia to take up a position as Director, Conflict Resolution at the NSWRL, Trent’s departure casts a long shadow over the National club – he has been an extraordinary contributor in both Hanoi and Saigon, and the memories flowed like wine from a punctured cask last night, with Swannies recalling best-on-fields, lightning pace and garbage angels.
Trent will be sadly missed by everyone he’s come into contact with here, with the possible exception of the occasional taxi driver and anyone who tried to push in front of him in a queue.
Good luck and godspeed, Trenter; you’re dead to us now.
As is the Swannies tradition, Trenter received a farewell trophy with the inscription, “You can leave the country. But not the Club. Honk!”
