Champs heating up

Posted by Vietnam Swans on July 4, 2007

The Champs is definitely heating up with a flurry of emails around the region today.

The first email was to do with the . Click on the link if you would like to know how to stay sweet with the ump.

“In the unlikely event of a major incident…” at the Champs, you should feel reassured that something has been done in advance to minimise/eliminate the seriousness of the incident. Chubb security has done an audit from which the  document was produced.

Swans say, “+2 = x2 as good”

Posted by Vietnam Swans on July 4, 2007

Today, the Thailand Tigers forwarded a proposal to all the competing teams about the number of players on the field in each match. The original proposal was 14 players + 8 interchange players. The new proposal is that there are 16 on-field players + 8 interchange players for a total of 24.

The Swans voted “Yes” to the proposal (no discussion is being entered into with the Organising Committee. They are only seeking ”Yes” or “No” votes). We will advise what the rest of the clubs vote (so far, Malaysia and Hong Kong have voted “yes”; UAE has voted “No”).

The number of players for each of the teams is interesting. The Swans thought they may have been in front with 39 players. We’re not; the Tiges alone have 44. Meanwhile, the Singapore Wombats who were supposed to have travelled to Manila with a “whopping 40 odd” two years ago, have just 25.

Here are the numbers:

  • Bali Geckos – 30
  • China Reds – 29
  • Hong Kong Dragons – 42
  • Jakarta Bintangs – 43
  • Japan Goannas – 22
  • Malaysian Warriors – 40
  • Singapore Wombats – 25
  • Thailand Tigers – 44
  • UAE Heat – 26
  • Vietnam Swans – 39

And, the Philippines Eagles still have another 10 who are looking for a home.

The deadline for voting on the proposal to revise the number of players is Friday, 6 July.

Swans support “the kids”

Posted by Vietnam Swans on July 4, 2007

Micky J., from Hanoi, was back in Melbourne at the MCG on 1st July. Unexpectedly, he found himself in a Swans hat with a Doggies’ banner in the background.

The Dogs’ banner was dedicated to “The Kids”. Mick points out that “Where there’s an organisation that looks after kids, there you’ll find a Swans cap”.

If you were one of “the kids” at Hanoi’s Warmhouse Orphanage, at one of AusCham Big Day Outs, at Austrade’s Australian Schools Open Day or at the UN International School’s International Day, you will have already found some Swans – regardless of whether they were wearing a hat.
