Match 2 Report: Vietnam Vs Jakarta Bintangs

Posted by Vietnam Swans on July 18, 2007

Final Score: We’re trying to find out!

After a less than perfect start in Game 1, it was imperative the team got off to a positive, attacking start and that it did. The first half of the game was all Swans with Drew and Johnny dominating the ruck and Sam, Mick Hassett and Greg Eggins running havoc in the centre of the ground. But without doubt the highlight of the first half was the emergence of Dan Sausage Roll Woodley at Full Forward.

His first goal, a contender for the Swans goal of the tournament, was a piece of pure magic as he latched onto a pass to his lead on first hop, dodged around a couple of Bintang defenders and drilled the centre of the goals from around 30m. Other Swannies forwards that saw plenty of the ball were Euan Hind and Martin Jacobs.

The second half was a tight affair with the Bintangs stepping up a notch to make a game of it and started an unfortunate trend of the Swans just not being able to hold at the end. With the ball seeing more time in the back lines, our defensive duo of Trav “The General” Fennell and Kris Vandemeer, were called upon time and again to rebound Bintang attacks and did a fabulous job. Ably supported by Will and Damo, the boys battled hard but at the end of the day just couldn’t keep out the relentless Bintangs who managed to fall over the line.

Best Swans Players: Woodley, Grigg, Hassett, Eggins, VanDermeer, Franklin, Fennell

Goal Kickers: Woodley 2, Euan 1 and ??

The Red & White go Green Mango

Posted by Vietnam Swans on July 18, 2007

In the space of a few months, we have seen the Vietnam Swans distinctive goal-striped hats in many places worn by the beautiful (the Swanettes at Austrade’s Australian Schools Open Day), the bold (Austrade Commissioner, Kevan Dacey when he left his hat on a table to swim far out to sea to save a seagull) and the ugly (the players at the Asian Champs). (Incidentally, it is surprising that none of the Jim Beam Swanettes have ever been captured on film wearing a Swans hat.)

This Saturday on Cat Ba Island, the extra lucky will be wearing their Swans hat at the Green Mango Resstaurant.

The Green Mango is a long time supporter of the Swans from Hanoi. They were a Gold Sponsor at our Grand Final event last year. And they also put on a cracking 2nd birthday party where we were very well looked after.

This coming Saturday, the Green Mango celebrates its 3rd birthday. And, if you’re wearing your Swans hat, you will receive 10 x 15,000 VND vouchers (10 x beers) and 10 per cent off the food bill

 Green Mango

It’s 250,000 VND for a 5 course tasting menu, glass of Italian wine, drink specials and door prizes plus your place on the dance floor to “boogie all night”. How good is that?

To reserve your place, contact Mr Hai on 0988 681 208 or . For information, check out the .

It’ll be an extra great night for those wearing their Vietnam Swans hat post the Asian Champs.
